Joint opposition in parliament now wants to bring a no-confidence motion against Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera.

Joint Opposition parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila has said that they are considering tabling a no-confidence motion against Minister Samaraweera for his stance on employing foreign judges in the probe on alleged war crimes.

MP Gammanpila says Minister Samaraweera’s stance is contradictory to that of the President Maithripala Sirisena who has repeatedly asserted that there will be no participation of foreign jurists in the domestic probe despite agreeing to do so by co-sponsoring the UN resolution last year.

The lawmaker said it seems that the Minister does not represent the executive authority of the President and suggested that the Foreign Minister should resign respectfully or the President should remove him.
