The annual Custard Pie Championships took place in the UK on Saturday (June 4) with teams turning up from far and wide to compete at the event.

The contest welcomes teams of four who usually compete in fancy dress. Some of this year’s competitors dressed up as fairies, muskateers (or Custardteers as they called themselves) and zombies.

The rules are six points for a direct hit in the face, three points for a near miss above the shoulders and one point for hitting the rest of the body.

“What makes it special is that it’s grown and grown over 49 years. There’s 28 teams here ready to do battle. We’re marked for this year’s world championship and we’ve got the Japanese back as last year’s winners,” said the event organiser, Mike FitzGerald.

27 teams took part in this year’s event, with ITTE Q travelling all the way from Japan to try and retain the title they won last year.
