FIFA’s Infantino and Russia’s Mutko play football in Moscow
FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko played a short demonstration soccer game in Moscow on Wednesday (June 1).
Infantino was visiting for the launch of recruitment for volunteers for Russia’s 2018 soccer World Cup.
Russia plans to use 12 stadiums in 11 cities — two in Moscow, and one each in St. Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg.
The country has been hit hard by economic sanctions imposed by the EU and USA over Moscow’s actions in Ukraine and remains in recession, although it is slowly recovering from a slump in 2015.
