Pitching for cooperative federalism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reiterated that democracy is all about ‘partnership’ (Bhagidari).

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, addressed a large gathering at the swearing-in ceremony of the Council of Ministers of Assam on Tuesday.

He congratulated the people of Assam and said that in Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, they had a Chief Minister from the tribal community who is dedicated to serving society.

“I want to congratulate the people of Assam who have dreamt of development and given a chance to Sarbanand Sonowal, his team to serve the state. The democracy is all about ‘Bhagidari’ (partnership),” Prime Minister Modi said after the swearing-in ceremony of Sonowal.

He expressed confidence that the new Government would serve the people of Assam and transform the State through development.

“I am sure Sarbanand Sonowal will serve Assam and work very hard to transform Assam, his team will do the same. I am sure he will leave no stone unturned in working towards the development of Assam,” he added.

The Prime Minister said that the Union Government is working on the principle of cooperative federalism, and wants to give States maximum strength to enable them to progress. He said democracy is about bhaagidaari (participation), and said the Centre and the States must walk shoulder to shoulder for development. He stressed the need for comprehensive and all-round development of the nation, and especially the eastern part of the country.
