Thousands of people have been affected following the two days of heavy rain, the Disaster Management Centre said on Monday.

Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili said that over 4000 people have been affected in several parts of the country.

He said that evacuation centres had been setup at most places and assistance is being provided to those affected.

Kodippili said that the military had been deployed to assist some of the families affected by the rain.

He said that several roads were flooded or forced to be closed owing to landslides or landslide threats following the heavy rain.

The electricity supply was also interrupted in some parts of the country, the power and energy ministry said.

Three people were earlier reported missing following a landslide in Kegalle. The landslide had occurred in the Dehiowita area in Kegalle.
