Prince Harry admits he has big shoes to fill as Queen’s grandson.
Prince Harry has spoken of his admiration for his grandmother, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and admits to being daunted by the big shoes he has to fill following in her footsteps.
He was speaking in an ITV behind-the-scenes documentary with the royal family as the Queen approaches her 90th birthday.
“People have always said ‘do you feel as though you are following in her footsteps’, well that is exactly what we are doing,” Prince Harry said in the documentary Our Queen at Ninety.
“There is nowhere on this planet that I can think of that she hasn’t been in the last 90 years. So, she’s been everywhere and sometimes that’s quite hard because you go to a place where she hasn’t visited for maybe 20 years or maybe 15 years and you just think to yourself ‘How can I ever fullfill this huge expectation that comes with her and being a member of her family,” he said.
The small team making the documentary was granted close access to the monarch and those who know her well. The Queen is shown working at her desk, going through official papers delivered in the royal briefcase known as the ‘red box’. And her eye for detail is captured as she inspects the Palace Ballroom ahead of the State Banquet for Chinese Premier Xi Jingping last October.
The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year. Her real birthday is on April 21, but her official 90th celebrations are this year on June 11, when there will be a street party on The Mall and the traditional Trooping the Colour ceremony, which is also known as the Queen’s Birthday Parade.
