Security was tight in the Philippine capital on Tuesday (November 17) one day before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ meeting in Manila.

Regional tensions over the South China Sea and security concerns after the attack by Islamist militants on Paris could eclipse efforts by Pacific-Rim leaders this week to boost trade and growth across a region of around 3 billion people.

Soldiers with artillery equipment were positioned near Manila Bay, close to the APEC Leaders meeting venue.

The Philippines went on high alert after news of the Paris attacks broke out, ramping up security in its capital to ensure the safety of thousands of delegates.
