31 Tamil political prisoners who were released on bail today (Wednesday) have been taken back to prison.

When they were produced at the Magistrate’s Court today morning, a request was made to grant bail for them on the basis of the guarantee of the Prime Minister and the Attorney General’s Department; the Magistrate said he was not given such directives from the Attorney General’s Department.

Therefore, the prisoners were ordered to be in detention until 24th of November by the Colombo Magistrate.

But the lawyer who appeared on behalf of the prisoners requested for a re trial motion and they were brought back to the court again.

When the detainees were produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, were released on two sureties worth one million each.

Also the Magistrate ordered them to sign either in Colombo or Vavuniya police station on Sundays.

However, since nobody came forwarded to take them on bail, the released detainees were taken back to the prison again, says our reporter from the premises of the court.
