Wimal’s Arrest Not for Revenge: Gayantha Karunatilake

Cabinet spokesman Minister Gayantha Karunatilake stated there was not anything of political revenge on the arrest of Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, saying that the Prime Minister intervened since it had been accused as privilege of a Member of the Parliament was violated.

The Minister responded to a raised question with regard to the arrest of Wimal MP at a press conference of announcement of decision of the Cabinet.

Wimal Weerawansa’s matter was handled according to law and order and we do not intend to be injustice, said.

The Government carried out inquiries in order to protect privilege of a parliamentarian and the investigation was as usual, he added.
