Former President Chandrika and former Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar too had underground palace says former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

When replying to questions raised by journalists regarding the underground palace in President’s House, he said.

The underground palace was formed to escape from the aerial attack of the LTTE, saying, the first aerial attack of the LTTE in Colombo was the target of the President’s House. It was not possible to take the President to safety place every time of their attack, he stated.

It was constructed according to the recommendation of the Security Council and Army Commanders considering the situation of that time and not secretly built, he further stated.
