Special privilege for working Mothers

The senior legal adviser to the Department of Labour P.S.Pathirathna stated that the laws related to working mothers will be reviewed soon to amend the laws by providing the same maternity leave of 84 days to the subsequent deliveries.

For the first baby they are currently provided 84 days or 12 week of maternity leave and for the subsequent deliveries 42 days.

The necessary amendments with regard to the 84 maternity leave for all deliveries have been submitted to the Department of Labour, he said.

Arrangements have been made to review the labor laws with international labor organizations and to review the maternity legislation equivalent to the birth of each child and the mother needs, he added.
