Welikada murder: Will Gota escape ?
It has been reported that former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa is being responsible for the killing of prisoners that took place in Welikada Prison in November 2012, the secrete activity carrying out in trick way in order to remove him from this case. The investigation panel had recorded a statement from former defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa on May 18th.
Justice minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa had appointed investigation panel in order to investigate this incident. The final report of the investigation of the Welikda shot death incident had been handed over to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasingha on 09th of this month. Meanwhile the Supreme Court had been declared the judgment that Gotabe cannot be arrested only in connection to the case against Avant Garde Security firm and Rakna Lanka security firm and there are no obstacles to get him arrest for other cases. However, the doubt has arises on the background in unarrest of Gota.
The violence had started when police commandos arrived at the prison to provide security whilst prison officers searched for illegal items on 27th September 2012. After some prisoners seized arms a gunfight erupted. Witnesses said guards fired on prisoners who tried to escape. Most of the casualties were inmates. Dozens were injured. 27 people have died in clashes between inmates and guards at Sri Lanka’s Welikada prison. Families of killed prisoners have being carrying out protest for demanding the justice.
