Sri Lankan asylum seekers in Timor island

54 SriLankans including men , women and children , 10 Bangaladeshi nationals and one Mynnamr national visited to New Zealand by boat were abandoned and under police detention at Timor island. These individuals have began their boat journey towards New Zealand from Indonesia on May 5 and was arrested by the Australian Immigration and Emigration officials and Australian naval personals. These boat people were arrested on May 22 and detained till May 31. Asylum seekers staged hunger strike protest on demanding to send them towards New Zealand. However Australian officials acquired their boats and ordered sailors to return home.

At present these people are suffering with lack of foods and residing in two small boats. These asylum seekers have wrote special letter towards New Zealand government and requests to grant asylum in their country.
