A Day after Virat Kohli had breached the Anti Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU) protocol by meeting his girlfriend Anushka Sharma during a rain break in an IPL game, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shot off a letter to him seeking an explanation for his act.

The ACSU protocol states that players can’t meet any non-accredited personnel when the match is still on.

During the last IPL league game between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, Kohli was seen talking to Anushka in the corridor right next to the VIP enclosure where the Bollywood actress was seated. Kohli had met his girlfriend during a rain break and though the rains had eventually forced the game to be abandoned, the match hadn’t still been called off when the meeting took place.

In fact, Delhi Daredevils’ Yuvraj Singh and RCB’s Dinesh Karthik were also there when Kohli met Anushka. It was shown on live television by the official broadcasters. One of the pictures also show Yuvraj interacting with Anushka.

This isn’t the first time this year that the BCCI has pulled up Kohli. In March, during the World Cup, the BCCI had rapped Kohli for a public spat with a journalist and had asked him to “avoid such behaviour in the future”.

If that issue was about maintaining dignity, the latest incident is about maintaining protocol.
