Sub committee of cabinet; To analyze the bill of new electoral reforms
The Cabinet of Ministers yesterday discussed the proposed electoral reforms and appointed a committee comprising five ministers to identify the principles laid down by each party in this respect prior to drafting the bill on the subject, informed sources said. The decision was taken at the meeting led by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Wednesday) night in the Cabinet. The Sub Committee of the cabinet comprises with of Ministers Sarath Amunugama, SB Dissanayake, Patali Ranawaka, Palani Thigambaram, hashim Kabir, Rauff Hakeem, Rishad and Lakshman Kiriella
President Maitripala Sirisena had submitted a concept paper to be studied by all the parties. Meanwhile due to the alternative views on some of the ministers, President informed to the committee to analyze the new electoral system and submit it within a week.
