A horse race fan : dies after walking onto the horse race track finishing line

A spectator is killed on last Sunday (May 3) near the finish line after he walked onto the track in a horse race in Peru. Horse racing fan Faustino Landeo Delgadillo, 50, died in hospital after a collision with a horse and his jockey in Acobamba, some 450 km (279 miles) east of Lima. The spectator died from severe trauma and respiratory failure the hospital reports say. .

The jockey was also injured and taken to medics but is expected to make a full recovery. It is not known why the spectator walked onto the tracks. Reports have emerged that he was on the phone and intoxicated, but authorities are still to confirm an official version of events.

The horror crash did not halt proceedings, with Acobamba Mayor Alvar Capcha Ortiz awarding the winning horse ‘Kina’ with first prize.
