Named after the trailblazing astronomer Edwin P. Hubble, the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), a large, space-based observatory, has revolutionized astronomy by providing unprecedented deep and clear views of the Universe. Hubble has provided spectacular images, not just of our own solar system, but extremely remote fledgling galaxies forming not long after the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago.

Hubble drifts over Earth after its release by the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis during the fifth astronaut visit to the telescope, May 19, 2009.
