Family members have arrived at Kensington Palace

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are at the palace.

Earlier, the Duchess of Cambridge’s mother, Carole Middleton, and her sister Pippa also arrived to meet their newest relative.

The Cambridges will spend the next few days at Kensington Palace; afterwards they are expected to travel to their country home Anmer Hall on the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Bookmakers have said Charlotte and Alice have emerged as the favourite names for the princess, followed by Olivia, Victoria and Elizabeth.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have spent the first night with their new baby daughter at Kensington Palace.

The name of their second child – sister to Prince George – could be announced later and members of the Royal Family and the duchess’s parents may visit.

Tower Bridge was among several London landmarks lit up in pink in her honour.

The couple emerged later the same day with the baby wrapped in a white woolen shawl and bonnet to pose for photographs on the steps of the hospital, a little over 12 hours after Kate arrived.

Kate cradled the sleeping princess in her arms as the couple waved to the cheering crowd, although they made no comment.  A few minutes later, Prince William carried the baby in a car seat to a waiting vehicle, and then drove his wife and new daughter the short distance to Kensington Palace.

The baby princess will be fourth in line to the throne behind her brother Prince George, father William and grandfather Prince Charles, pushing her uncle Prince Harry down a place in the royal hierarchy. The baby, whose name has yet to be announced.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well,” it added.

The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital where the world awaited a brother or sister for Prince George.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton  safely delivered  a daughter at 8.34am. The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz.

The Duke of Cambridge Prince William  was present while Kate gave birth to a baby girl. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well hospital sources say.

The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.
