Sri Lankan marathoner keeps a record at the prestigious London Marathon
Anuradha Indrajith Coorey, a 37-year-old London based marathoner, kept a record at the prestigious London Marathon yesterday.
Coorey erased a 40-year-old Sri Lankan record held by marathon great SLB Rosa with a brilliant 2.13.47 seconds, 44 seconds ahead of Rosa’s age old record of 2.14.31 seconds established at the 1975 Fukuoka Marathon. But he says, he would skip the World Athletic Championships in China if Sri Lanka fail to support him financially. He asked for a few pounds per month from the Sports Ministry for his training the ministry refused. So if they continues to snub him, he would pull out from the World Championships, that Coorey said.
Coorey is one of the two Sri Lankans who qualified for the Beijing World Championship in August this year.
