Will Germany give chance to Copenhagen to host some of the Olympic events in 2024?
Copenhagen is a sister city of Hamburg, Germany. Germany will be the host country for the summer Olympics in 2024. So, Copenhagen wants in, too.
The Copenhagen mayor said that he is already in dialogue with Hamburg’s mayor to hold some of the events in Copenhagen and helping Hamburg. So since the decision is not made, it’s expected that there’ll be more discussions in the coming years too. Denmark will not be the partner country to be the co-host of Olympic Games. But, it’ll hold some of the events such as cycling (As it’s one of the national sports in Denmark), Football and Handball (Danish have a huge interest in Handball and Denmark is building a new arena named ‘Copenhagen Royal Arena’, where the outdoor events can be conducted).
Also, a long tunnel is proposed to be built for 19 kilometers connecting Denmark and North Germany. This will help to shorten the travelling time from all the Nordic countries down to Europe. The plan is to have the tunnel ready just in time for the Olympics in 2024.
Last time, Olympics held in Europe, and then in London. Rio de Janeiro will be the host city in 2016, and it will be followed by Tokyo in 2020.
